WHAT: Parent Talk “Hitting Walls and Bouncing Back"
WHEN: April 27
WHERE: Fairmeadow Elementary School, Palo Alto
Hitting "The Wall" is a phenomenon well-known to most marathoners, often encountered in their 18th mile. Marathoners learn to identify the triggers, anticipate them and prepare well. There is a "wall" in parenting, too, often identified with losing perspective, feeling guilty, feeling lonely and handling cranky children.
In this talk,
Genevieve, a parent and a marathoner, helps parents learn strategies and
techniques to identify the triggers and locate stressors. Parents can then
find ways to work around the "wall." Genevieve will also share her Attitude
Toolkit that enables parents to find the humor, readjust their attitude, and
“bounce back” after hitting most walls - so they can go the distance and
enjoy the day.
Hitting The Walls and Bouncing Back is based on materials from
Genevieve's new book "The Sport of Motherhood:
Training Tips for a Full and Balanced Life".

About Genevieve and Sport of Motherhood
Popular Bay Area
author and cable TV show host Genevieve Hutcheson Butcher is the mother
of four young children. She is also a wife, an artist and a committed
marathon runner. Genevieve believes that in order to achieve balance and
happiness, she must make space for all of these passions. When she began
to apply marathon-pacing strategies to all areas of her life, Genevieve
realized that motherhood is no different than preparing for a marathon -
what matters is not so much the end result but enjoying the ride all
along.
The Sport of
Motherhood
is the essence of Genevieve's personal experience - achieving your goals
while leading a full life. Marathon training techniques metamorphose
into tips and strategies for time management, goal management and
creating support networks. The book is a key tool for moms who strive
to keep a happy balance between mothering, careers, hobbies and personal
pursuits. A combination of 200+ interviews, marathon tips and techniques
and exercises, The Sport of Motherhood helps women make time for
long-term interests, face challenges, clarify objectives, move forward
and most importantly - live a well-balanced life.
