Possible Formats:
Pull from a jar with slips of
paper or a deck of cards for starter ideas,
Game starters such as “High/Low.”
Go around table and each person gets to tell favorite part of day or “high”
and the least favorite part of day or “low”
Can also pass a spoon or item
to designate speaker’s turn (can be helpful with little children or “talkers”)
Or the usual casual conversation
prompted by a look at the school calendar, knowledge of the current book
being read in the classroom, or information gleaned from the school or class
newsletter.

What is something kind that you
have done today? Or How have you helped someone today?
What makes a good leader?
Tell us about someone you admire.
Can be anyone – a sports star, teacher, etc.
How can you reach out to an elderly
person?
When did you make a choice between

Describe favorite artwork, book,
room,____ fill in blank.
If you could be any animal, what
could you be and why?
What is your favorite sport, game,
art project, subject, ______ lately?
Who do you play with at recess?

What do you want to learn or do
for the next science fair project?
What is the difference between
fantasy and fib?
How do you include others?
What do you do when you see others
excluded?
What are some ways that can help
a new kid feel welcome at school?
Pretend you are a younger or older
sibling or a parent and tell about part of your day through his or her eyes.
Use current events, the weather,
storms, natural disasters or politics as springboards for discussion
