Genevieve Hutcheson Butcher graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in Art and Archeology, and from the University of Pennsylvania with Masters Degrees in Secondary Education and English Literature. She graduated with distinction from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded “Outstanding Contribution to the Student Body.” She has exhibited her paintings in New York City, worked as a social worker and teacher in Manhattan, and taught high school English in inner-city Philadelphia. Recently, Genevieve’s Cable TV Show won “Best Live Show” in the ACM National Film Festival, non-pro category. Genevieve also won the San Francisco Writers Conference Non-Fiction Pitch Contest.
She currently lives in Palo Alto, California with her husband and four young children.
Genevieve has run the New York Marathon, the Philadelphia Marathon, the San Francisco Marathon twice, the California International Marathon twice, the Golden Gate Marin Headlands Marathon, and the Silicon Valley Marathon. She ran seven of these marathons after having children. Genevieve continues to run marathons, working with running partners or training teams, always adapting her running schedules to her family life.
Genevieve is committed to finding balance in her own life and sharing her successful tactics with bright, talented and busy moms everywhere through her program, The Sport of Motherhood. Genevieve began Sport based on her personal, marathon-inspired successes with time management. Now, as she builds Sport into a resource for busy moms, she is incorporating the ideas of other experienced mothers, working women and experts into her vision.
To reach her target audience of busy moms, Genevieve has introduced her Sport of Motherhood program in multiple formats: as a nation-wide TV talk show, a book, a website, special-topics classes, an email newsletter, boot camps, and even an online help column. This summer the TV show will reach over 5 million homes throughout the United States.
Her book, The Sport of Motherhood: Training Tips for a Full & Balanced Life, guides mothers step-by-step toward creating work and family balance by coaching them on pacing themselves like athletes, achieving their goals and—most importantly—enjoying their progress. The book has been added to Stanford University’s Health and Wellness Library.
Genevieve’s award-winning cable television show, The Sport of Motherhood Show, showcases Genevieve’s positive approach to family dynamics and features special guests and lively round table discussions around up-to-date mother’s issues. Her workshops and lectures are currently being hosted in the SF Bay Area and other parts of the country. She also writes a popular monthly column "Dear Genevieve" at www.siliconmom.com.
